HSSBV to host Rattlesnake Avoidance Training
Classes by High on Kennels, Friday, April 21st, 2017. Appointments available starting at 9:00 a.m.
If you hike or spend time in the back country or local canyons and trails with your dog the dangers exist. Rattlesnakes can be found in your back yard. High On Kennels recommend that all dogs be trained to avoid rattlesnakes. Training is simple, quick and effective. High On Kennels has been providing rattlesnake avoidance training for over thirteen years.
High on Kennels has found the best way to teach a dog to avoid rattlesnakes is to use live rattlesnake specimens. The rattlesnakes have been neutralized, so that they cannot bite. Your dog will be led around the course at the HSSBV and allowed to encounter the rattle- snakes at which point the dog is stimulated using an electronic collar.
The process is repeated until the trainer is satisfied your dog would avoid rattlesnakes (rattlesnakes have a distinctive odor that a dog can discern from other snakes).
High on Kennels recommends annual Rattlesnake Avoidance Training. Some dogs seem to forget over a period of time!
