Organization Description
The Humane Society of San Bernardino Valley (HSSBV) has been protecting animals for 40 years. The mission of the HSSBV is to prevent cruelty and neglect to animals; to educate children and all members of the community about animal welfare issues; and to provide for the health and well-being of animals with an emphasis on spay/neuter to prevent pet over-population. Each year, our veterinary clinic serves more than 85,000 animals by providing low-cost spay and neuter services, low-cost vaccinations, and limited medical services. The Society also provides education to thousands of elementary students and animal cruelty investigations.
Position Responsibilities
The applicant will work closely with the Operations Manager, Board of Directors, HSSBV staff, volunteers, and constituents to implement all fundraising and public relations activities, as well as oversee the volunteer program. The position will play a major role in supporting the organization’s current and long-range fundraising objectives.
Responsibilities include:
Plan and coordinate all aspects of three annual fundraising special events; also coordinate other goodwill events & community fairs, &/or educational classes
Write and design newsletters and direct mail appeals throughout the year, create other collateral fundraising materials
Maintain positive media relations through press releases of HSSBV happenings
Create and foster relationships with donors, prospective donors, and community leaders; serve as the organization liaison or spokesperson with various constituents and media
Oversee donation processing and donor acknowledgments via Raiser’s Edge fundraising donor database
Manage website content and Social Media sites
Develop strategies to expand and diversify funding sources
Cultivate and steward Major Gifts, Grants, Planned Giving, Memorial Opportunities
Engage in board relations
Give facility tours
Manage the Volunteer Coordinator, to oversee the recruiting, interviewing, training, and scheduling of volunteer workers; ensure that the activities of the volunteer workers meet the needs of the organization
Continue the positive visibility and relationships of the organization
Perform a variety of tasks as needed, support other departments as needed
Qualifications
Experience with Raiser’s Edge donor database software
Strong computer skills including desktop publishing and MS Office
Desired: PageMaker &/or Illustrator design software
Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills
Able to make presentations to small meetings and large groups
Event management and volunteer supervision
Able to work independently and multi-task
Background or interest in animal welfare
Occasional weekends or evenings required, per special events
