Registered Veterinary Technician
SUMMARY:
Provide medical care and assistance to animals at the clinic. This includes animals here for surgery, vaccinations, examinations and euthanasia. Support the role as an RVT to include being called upon to work in surgery/recovery areas and perform miscellaneous duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Administers vaccines, medications, etc.
- Performs a variety of diagnostic laboratory tests (i.e.: parvovirus, feline leukemia, skin scrapings, ear cytology, etc.)
- Checks in animals / conducts pre-operation examinations, including weigh-ins, tranquilizing, etc.
- Prepare animals for surgery, including anesthetizing, intubation, cleaning incision site, etc.
- Performs euthanasia ensuring written euthanasia policies are adhered to while implementing euthanasia in a timely manner and to the highest procedural level.
- Clean up surgery and examination rooms at the end of the day.
- Conducts routine vaccination appointments and counsels owners on basic pet care
- Performs suture removals and nail trimmings
- Receives inventories and medical supplies under the direction of the Clinic Manager.
- Transports Patients from cage to prep and surgery tables and back to cage while adhering to procedural guidelines.
- Assists recovery personnel as needed.
- Assists with surgery when needed, under direct supervisor of a veterinarian.
- Operates heart monitor/ pulse ox consistently on each patient during surgery.
- Observes patients during recovery and assists with their release to owners, as needed.
- Renders emergency treatment to animals in need of emergency care.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid certificate of registration as a Registered Veterinary Technician issued by the California State Board of Examiners in Veterinary Medicine. Minimum of one year experience working with animals in a veterinary hospital. Knowledge of, or ability to learn humane animal handling, restraint, and confinement procedures; familiarity of various animal breeds; familiarity of common animal diseases; safety precautions of working around animals. Ability to read, write, communicate and follow instructions. Preference is given to a candidate who has assisted with and performed dental procedures, including cleanings, X-rays and Extractions.

DVM Veterinary Manager
SUMMARY:
The Veterinary Manager ensures the highest quality of veterinary care exceptional customer service and maximum productivity of the medical staff. The Veterinary Manager partners with the Client Service Supervisor and the Executive Director to operate an effective and productive medical staff, advocates for pets, educates clients on all aspects of pet health, ensures a safe and effective clinic environment and improves both the medical quality and business performance of the clinic.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborate with the Executive Director and clinic supervisors to direct and lead the clinic as a role model to provide consistent high-quality care and exceptional customer service to the most pets and clients and to maximize efficiency, productivity and revenue. Ensure the staff follows HSSBV guidelines and policies.
Effectively create and maintain veterinarian’s schedules and work with clinic supervisors to schedule staff to meet the needs of the clinic and our clients while proactively planning time off, continuing education and training.
- Participate in annual HSSBV planning and budgeting with the Executive Director and Board
Ensure the clinic staff maintains complete medical records that meet HSSBV quality guidelines. Ensure the staff follows HSSBV guidelines and policies.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to interview, select, train, develop, coach, mentor and if necessary, discipline Associate Veterinarians and clinic supervisors
Operate an effective, productive veterinary staff, advocating for pets, educating clients on all aspects of pet health, ensuring a safe and effective clinic environment, and improving both the medical and business performance of the clinic.
Provide inspirational leadership to the staff by creating a positive professional relationship with community partners, administration and the board.
Provide effective communication between staff, clients, administration, board members and community partners.
Direct, lead and mentor Associate Veterinarians and clinic supervisors to realize their full professional potential and deliver outstanding, high quality medical care; client service; and business results. Establish development plans for the Associate Veterinarians and focus staff to deliver the practice priorities, exceed goals while building the HSSBV culture.
Diagnose, treat and control diseases and injuries in pets; perform spay/neuter surgeries; oversee RVT’s on dentals; prescribe and administer medications and vaccines as appropriate.
Ensure the safety of pets, clients, and staff members by utilizing safe restraining techniques, following standard protocols, and maintains clean, sterile and organized treatment areas, exam rooms, surgery rooms and lab areas.
- Provide professional, efficient and exceptional service including prescribing and administering preventive care for the wellness of pets and diagnosing and treating diseases and minor injuries in pets
Fully utilize all HSSBV systems to ensure the protection of license and DEA permit.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent
License in good standing with state of California
License with Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA)
Proven ability to perform all the duties and functions of an Associate Veterinarian
Have a basic knowledge of animal diseases and conditions including domestic animals, exotic animals and wildlife.
No felony convictions or convictions of driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Have a valid California driver’s license, or ability to obtain one and maintain during the course of employment. Insurable to drive HSSBV vehicle.
Ability to operate a vehicle under all types of weather road conditions.
Ability to work when and where needed, including field disasters or emergency response for extended periods of time.
- Six months management experience and five years clinical experience required.
- Ability to see up to 25 or more patient exams per day while maintaining HSSBV standards of care
- Proven ability to perform up to 30 surgical procedures a day on all sizes of dogs and cats.
