Facilities & Housekeeping Manager

SUMMARY:

Provides leadership, direction and budget management in the efficient operation of the building maintenance and janitorial functions in accordance with established policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees the maintenance and repair of facility, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, safety, etc. Coordinates with vendors as needed for tasks that cannot be completed by department “in house.”
  • Schedules regular inspection and preventative maintenance of: facility, safety equipment, fire extinguishers, fire alarm, smoke detectors, ec.
  • Coordinates with outside vendors on regular maintenance, such as gardening company.
  • Coordinate safety and ergonomics of building including first aid kits, office furniture, etc.
  • Reporting to Executive Director keeps track of annual budget and gives recommendations for future budgets.
  • Analyze space utilization and give suggestions for improvement.
  • Assist with set up and clean up special events, including working during the event to keep the space clean and organized.
  • Coordinated special projects as assigned such as building painting, new floor installation, etc.
  • Responsible for overall cleanliness of facility in non-medical areas, such as public and staff restrooms, Education Center, hallways, break room, etc. Responsible for cleanliness of outside of building, sidewalk areas, parking lot and garage.
    • Can assign to staff, but may also participate based on staffing/volunteers at the time.
  • Safely operate HSSBV provided vehicle pick up supplies, donations and event items as assigned.
  • Manage security door code system, cameras, remotes, etc.; including adding and deleting employees as needed to these systems.
  • Working with housekeeper order supplies as needed.

    Supervisory Duties

  • Supervises housekeeper and volunteers

  • Assign appropriate tasks to (at this time) full time housekeeper position.

  • Find creative ways to keep this position occupied throughout the day.
  • Assign appropriate tasks to volunteers who sign up for the housekeeping department which include laundry, cleaning, etc.
  • Maintain suitable employer/employee relations within the area of responsibility through regular performance reviews of direct reports in a timely manner.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Employee must be a high school graduate or equivalent, with maintenance and/ or grounds-keeping experience.  Must be computer literate and have the ability to utilize a Windows based system and email.  Must be able to respond and communicate in a timely, accurate and efficient manner.  Must be able to react calmly to stress.  Must demonstrate the ability to handle a variety of responsibilities with minimal supervision. 

Possess the ability to interact appropriately with staff, clients, donors and patients (animals).

Registered Veterinary Technician

SUMMARY:

Provide medical care and assistance to animals at the clinic. This includes animals here for surgery, vaccinations, examinations and euthanasia. Support the role as an RVT to include being called upon to work in surgery/recovery areas and perform miscellaneous duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administers vaccines, medications, etc.
  • Performs a variety of diagnostic laboratory tests (i.e.: parvovirus, feline leukemia, skin scrapings, ear cytology, etc.)
  • Checks in animals / conducts pre-operation examinations, including weigh-ins, tranquilizing, etc.
  • Prepare animals for surgery, including anesthetizing, intubation, cleaning incision site, etc.
  • Performs euthanasia ensuring written euthanasia policies are adhered to while implementing euthanasia in a timely manner and to the highest procedural level.
  • Clean up surgery and examination rooms at the end of the day.
  • Conducts routine vaccination appointments and counsels owners on basic pet care
  • Performs suture removals and nail trimmings
  • Receives inventories and medical supplies under the direction of the Clinic Manager.
  • Transports Patients from cage to prep and surgery tables and back to cage while adhering to procedural guidelines.
  • Assists recovery personnel as needed.
  • Assists with surgery when needed, under direct supervisor of a veterinarian.
  • Operates heart monitor/ pulse ox consistently on each patient during surgery.
  • Observes patients during recovery and assists with their release to owners, as needed.
  • Renders emergency treatment to animals in need of emergency care.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Valid certificate of registration as a Registered Veterinary Technician issued by the California State Board of Examiners in Veterinary Medicine. Minimum of one year experience working with animals in a veterinary hospital. Knowledge of, or ability to learn humane animal handling, restraint, and confinement procedures; familiarity of various animal breeds; familiarity of common animal diseases; safety precautions of working around animals. Ability to read, write, communicate and follow instructions. Preference is given to a candidate who has assisted with and performed dental procedures, including cleanings, X-rays and Extractions.

Recovery Room Vet Assistant

SUMMARY:

To assist veterinarian and animal health technicians in surgery and with vaccinations and euthanasia.  Care for postoperative pets.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist AHT with :

    • Holding animals for injections
    • Carrying animals in and out of surgery
    • Restraining unruly animals
    • Surgery preparation
    • Assist with surgery check-in (as needed) by:
    • Weighing animals
    • Taking temperatures
    • Checking sex of animals
    • Noting any abnormalities to bring to the attention of the senior AHT or veterinarian
    • Clean surgical instruments and set up all packs for autoclaving.
    • Prepare cold pack for use and maintain bi-weekly.
    • Assist in monitoring post-surgery patients.
    • Assist AHT’s with euthanasias.
    • Cleans and disinfects cages, equipment, surgery room, exam room, and waiting room.
    • Advises clients on post surgery care of patients.
    • Notifies clients of additional procedures needed by patient and pick-up reminders.
    • All other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to read, write, communicate and follow instructions.  Prefer a minimum of six months experience in a veterinary hospital or shelter environment.  Knowledge of, or ability to learn humane animal handling, restraint, and confinement procedures; familiarity of various animal breeds; familiarity of common animal diseases; safety precautions of working around animals.  Knowledge of, or ability to learn techniques of assisting AHT’s or veterinarian during examinations and treatment of animals; ability to assist during euthanasia.  Ability to deal with the public courteously and effectively.  Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.  Committed to promoting and enhancing the image of the Humane Society of San Bernardino Valley.
